What I wore 10/1/2017

Summer is here in earnest and the temperature has been scorching.  Between the humid days and the sultry nights all I want to do is laze about in floating layers, read while stretched on on green lawns and wait for a breeze to lift the hair off my neck.

I am wearing:

    • Sportsgirl maxi dress (thrifted)
    • Tan sandals from Rubi Shoes
    • Snake bangle from Tilka
    • Drop pearl earrings from Louvisa
    • Floral hair garland (handmade by me)
    • Resin ring (thrfited)

My mermaid pedicure.

I went with super light makeup, because I knew that a full face wouldn’t last in the heat.  Just a swipe of BB cream, a touch of concealer where needed, cream blush and eyeshadow and nude lipgloss for a dewy look.

I’ve had snakes on the brain lately.  The night before last, I took a walk to my parents house and nearly stepped on a red-belly black snake as I crossed the road.  It took a moment to realise that the snake was dead, and by that time I’d already had a mini heart attack.  Snakes are a big problem here in summer time, although now that I live right in the heart of town, I rarely see any.  They tend not to venture where there are too many cars or people, but this slithery dude must have been on the move, probably looking for water.  I’m so pleased that I didn’t run into a live one, because they really frighten me.  The closest I want to come to a snake is these two brass ones wrapped around my wrist.

Daily outfit 16/9/2013

One  thing I’m finding tricky about moving house is finding a new place to take outfit photos.  I’ve been dragging my camera all over the house and yard to scout possible locations for daily outfit shots.  So far I’ve found a couple of potential spots that will work depending on the weather.  I’m very lucky because my flat gets a lot of sunlight, so if it’s a bright day I can take pictures indoors.

However, today was quite overcast and any indoor photos were coming up horribly grainy.  So I had to retreat to the backyard for a photoshoot.  I was happy with how these pictures turned out.  However, while I was posing, I noticed that the elderly gentleman who lives next door to me was peering over his fence with a puzzled look on his face.  No doubt he was wondering what on earth the girl-next-door was up to, prancing about in sequins and a turban.  Clearly he hasn’t visited my blog before.  Perhaps I should slip one of my cards into his letterbox?

DSCF8827I am wearing:

– Red sequinned jumper (thrifted)

– Black turban from Ruby vintage

– Black harem pants from Target

– Red socks from ASOS

– Green loafers from Rubi shoes

– Brown resin ring (thrifted)

– Silver swirl ring

– Beetle ring (gift from my parents)

Black cat earrings from Sisunyak

DSCF8828It was such a grey day that I needed to add a bit of colour and sparkle to my outfit.  Then I went nuts and added loads of sparkle.  And even more colour.

The weather has been really unpredictable lately.  Last weekend I took a walk down to the lake in a flimsy summer skirt and a tank top.  Today I’m wearing long socks, thermals and woolly knits all over again.  Go figure.

DSCF8833I am also wearing a new lippy in these pictures.  I decided to treat myself to a new lipstick just before I moved house.  This one is Goodbye from the Lipstick Queen Butterfly Ball range.  It’s a beautiful sheer wine colour and I love it. It’s completely different from every lipstick I own and I’ve been wearing it quite a lot.  It’s really moisturizing and it tastes slightly of coconut.

DSCF8837How cute are these kitty earrings?  They were a birthday gift from my parents and I think they’re fantastic.  They’re just a little bit quirky without being too over the top.

DSCF8838I had to cut all my nails short while I was moving because they kept breaking on me during the packing-and-lifting process.  They’re slowly growing back though.  I’ve been going sans nail polish the last few weeks to give my nails a rest, but with Spring just around the corner I’m reading to start splashing out with some bright shades again.

So that was my very first outfit post from my new flat.  I hope you enjoyed it as much as my neighbour enjoyed watching me mince about in the backyard.

Daily outfit 21/8/2013

So today is my grandfather’s birthday.  If you’ve been following my blog for a while (or if you know me in person), you’ll know that my grandfather, or Pa, passed away two and a half years ago.  We were very close and even though he had been ill for a long time, losing him was a hard blow.  I try to make his birthday a happy occasion by celebrating all the things that made him special.  I try to indulge in some of his favourite treats as well.  So tonight I’m going to be snacking on some liquorice allsorts and raspberry cordial and watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.   The reason I watch that movie each year on his birthday is because the actor that plays Grandpa Joe reminds me so much of my Pa.  Plus, it’s impossible to feel sad when you’re watching that film.

Today I’m wearing a fairly simple outfit with some pretty details.

I am wearing:

– Grey cable knit jumper from Supre

– Brown trousers (thrifted)

– Brown and gold high heels from Savers

– Faux pearl necklace (thrifted)

I didn’t really feel like getting dressed up today, but I also wanted to wear something presentable.  This jumper and these trousers are so comfortable, that  they’re almost as good as kicking around in a tracksuit.  I dressed up the ensemble with my heels and the necklace.

DSCF8777I realised that this outfit cost less than $50 in total.  The jumper cost $35,  the shoes were $6 and the necklace and trousers were $1 each.  So in total that’s only $43.  I’m so thrifty!

So that’s what I’m wearing to celebrate my grandfather’s birthday.  I know that he’d approve of this comfy-but-smart outfit.  In fact, I’m sure he’d have approved if I’d spent the day in my P.Js.  He was one of the most relaxed people I’ve ever known, and he honestly couldn’t have cared less about the way anyone looked.  As long as you were a decent person who could enjoy a good belly-laugh, he’d have thought you were awesome and treated you like family.  I miss him so much, but it’s nice to look back and celebrate on his special day.

Daily outfit: Thrift princess.

Today was just one of those days where everything comes together.  I’ve got a couple of new-to-me pieces in my wardrobe that I’ve been dying to wear, and this morning I thought “Why don’t I try styling them together?”  Not only did this thinking produce one of my favourite outfits in a long time, but it made me feel like a princess.  A thrift princess.

I am wearing:

– Yellow-stone bracelet (in hair) gift from Ross’s Mum.

– Grey velvet jacket from Tree of Life

– White slip dress, thrifted from Friperie

– Black vintage boots (thrifted)

– Silver fleur du lis ring from Diva

– Rose ring from Etsy

– Signet ring (gift from my grandfather)

Ross’s mother gave me this hinged bracelet at Easter.  As I have tiny bird wrists, it’s far too big for me to wear as a bracelet.  I was playing around with it and I had the idea to clamp it over my bun.  Ta-da!  Instant tiara!

I am so happy that I found another use for this bracelet.  It just goes to show that you don’t always have to wear things the way they’re supposed to be worn.

These boots are new too.  I spotted them in the op-shop a few weeks ago, and internally screamed when my eyes clamped onto them.  I’ve wanted a pair of boots exactly  like this for years.  As I walked towards them, I reminded myself that it was likely that they wouldn’t fit, or they’d be hideously uncomfortable or really expensive.  As soon as I tried them on, I knew the boots had been waiting for me.  They fit beautifully and they are divine to wear.  Best of all, they cost just $7.  I couldn’t be happier.

DSCF8067

I’m going to be wearing these all the time in winter.  They’re really versatile too, because you can lace them up as high as you want.  They look great laced to the top, or half-done and with the tops folded over.  I plan on wearing them with some medieval-princess inspired garb, as well as some of my hippie looks and 90’s inspired outfits.  Don’t be too shocked if you see these boots in a lot of outfit posts over the next few months!

I hope you have an awesome day!
