Product review: Melt by WeVibe

It’s been a few years since pressure-wave stimulators burst onto the sex toy scene, and in those years I’ve tried quite a few different variations of this toy. While I’ve enjoyed most of them, I’m yet to find one that perfectly fit my needs. Although there are a few definite front-runners, I haven’t found a clear favourite. Even with the most impressive models, there is always one or two details I wish I could change. When Aphrodite’s Pleasure offered to send me the WeVibe Melt to test, I jumped at the chance. Could this toy be my holy grail?

The WeVibe Melt is a clitoral stimulator that uses subtle variations in air pressure to create a suction-like sensation. Pressure-wave stimulators are often marketed as giving a similar sensation to oral sex, and I don’t think that’s too far off the mark. The feeling is similar to a gentle sucking on the clitoris, but it doesn’t exactly replicate oral sex. It’s a very targeted type of clitoral stimulation that can produce powerful orgasms. Pressure-wave toys are my preferred way to access multiple orgasms. Sometimes with vibrators or manual stimulation, my clitoris begins to get overly sensitive from the friction, and multiple orgasms are a tall order when you can’t bear to be touched any longer. But with pressure-wave toys like the WeVibe Melt, there’s no actual contact with your clitoris, so you don’t get that over-stimulated feeling. That means that you can just relax and let orgasm after orgasm wash over you.

WeVibe are renowned for making ergonomic sex toys that are comfortable to use. When I reviewed the Wevibe Rave, I noted how the ergonomic design of the toy really enhances the experience, and I feel the same way about the Melt. The Melt is very lightweight and has a slim, handle that can be cradled in the palm of your hand. The toy curves gracefully to accommodate the contours of your body and makes it really easy to reach your clitoris without straining your wrist or hand. A lot of pressure-wave toys are palm-sized, so you have to cup your hand around them to hold them in place. This can place pressure on the wrist if you want to use them for an extended period (like if you’re trying to enjoy those multiple O’s I mentioned before). The Melt is so light and comfortable that I didn’t even have to think about shifting my wrist or hand during use. It has been so beautifully designed as to sit perfectly in my hand for effortless play.

The other design aspect of the Melt that I love is the nozzle. In my experience, the shape and size of the nozzle is the make-or-break factor in a pressure-wave toy. If the nozzle is too small, you have to be incredibly precise with your placement to make certain that you’ve got it right on the clitoris. If the nozzle is too short, then it can put your clitoris perilously close to the oscillating mechanism (risking a painful experience if it makes contact with your clit). A lot of the toys I’ve tried have flat, rounded nozzles. An issue that I’ve had in the past is struggling to keep the toy perfectly positioned on my clitoris. If the toy moves even a millimeter off the mark, you lose that amazing sensation and have to start again. With the rounded nozzle, you have to really work to maintain that suction, because you’re trying to keep a flat opening on the curved surface of your pubic mound.

What set the Melt apart is the elliptical nozzle. It’s more of an oval shape rather than a circle, so it accounts for the natural curve of the mons and clitoral area. It also has a slight scoop to it, which helps it to really nestle in between your labia and cup the clitoris. It’s quite a generous sized nozzle, which will accommodate a wide range of clitoral sizes. The nozzle is also quite flexible, so you can sort of mold it to the shape of your body. Of all the pressure-wave toys I’ve used, the Melt is the easiest to position and the one that stays in place with practically zero effort. It just perfectly hugs my clit and stays exactly where I want it. I’ve never lost an orgasm because it’s shifted off my clit at the critical moment. Once it’s in place, I can lose myself in a fantasy and just let the orgasms happen, I don’t have to work for them.

The Melt has 10 speeds, which start at a gentle puff of air and increase all the way up to jackhammer-like intensity. The speed is controlled with a + and – button which are set into the handle of the toy. The buttons are very easy to press and there’s a nice variation between settings. The speeds ramp up gradually, so you don’t have to worry about going from a nice, soft flutter to a too-intense suction with a single button push.

The Melt is compatible with the WeVibe app, which has a few exciting features. Firstly, you can use your phone as a remote control for the toy. This might come in handy if you find it tricky to press the small buttons, or have trouble telling the difference between the buttons in the dark. You can also allow a partner to remotely control your Melt from anywhere in the world. This is so much fun for long-distance partners, because your honey can give you a mind-blowing orgasm without leaving their bedroom. The app also has a function where you can create your own vibration patterns, but I couldn’t get it to work with the Melt. I think this might be because the Melt doesn’t have pre-programmed patterns, it just does steady streams of pulsation. I have been able to use this function with my other WeVibe toys, so perhaps the Melt just isn’t compatible with this feature. The app also allows you to keep close tabs on the battery, so you won’t run out of juice unexpectedly.

The Melt is also very quiet. On the lowest settings you can hear barely a whisper when it’s under the covers, and on the stronger settings it’s still fairly quiet. This would be a great choice if you live with roommates and want a discreet toy. Melt is also waterproof, so you can take it in the shower or tub.

The WeVibe Melt is unquestionably my holy grail of pressure-wave toys. There isn’t a single thing I’d change about it, and I’m excited to enjoy many hours of pleasure with this absolute gem of a toy.
