What I wore: Kaftans for days

Summer has hit at last.  When I announced that I was moving to Ballarat, practically every person I told replied with “It’s frickin’ freezing there, y’know?”.  And it’s true, Ballarat is much colder than my hometown of Benalla. On the flipside, that cooler climate translates into a much more pleasant summer and fewer days spent prostrate in front of the air conditioner.

So while it’s warm enough to know that Summer is here, it’s not face-meltingly hot. I’ve enjoyed putting together some pretty summer outfits comprising floaty pieces and fancy sandals.  I’m particularly smitten with kaftans at the moment.  They’re comfy, functional and the perfect way to add a little 70’s chic to your wardrobe.

I am wearing:

  • Peacock print kaftan (thrifted)
  • Pink pucci print Pierre Fontaine sandals (thrifted)
  • Black belt (thrifted)
  • Vintage Sarah Coventry ring from Etsy
  • Vintage bracelet (inherited from my great aunt)
  • Silver hoop earrings

Kaftans are pretty bold but they’re so easy to wear.  The open sleeves and floaty fabrics keep you so cool, and they come in so many prints and shades.  They’re perfect for throwing on to swan around the house, or you can belt them and add some heels to make a chic party outfit.  This was actually the second day in a row that I’d worn a kaftan. I wore a soft silk version to go to the Rev to watch David perform the day before. I felt so comfortable in the car and I was cool and happy the whole afternoon.
