Welcome to the first 5 Fandom Friday for 2015. I missed last week’s because I was busy eating pizza and enjoying the Boxing Day sales, but I’m back! This week’s topic is:
My New Years Fandom Resolutions.
1. Start saving for a trip to Disneyland
At 29 years of age, I have never been overseas. I’ve never even been on a plane. And I feel so jealous when I look at blog posts from American bloggers like Magic Cat Jenny or Le Fancy Geek who live close to Disneyland and visit all the time.
I’d really love to travel overseas in the next couple of years. And I’d particularly like to visit Disneyland in either America or Hong Kong. So this year I think it’s about time that I started saving my pennies and working towards making that dream a reality.
2. Work on more geeky crochet projects.
It’s been a while since I added a new geeky item to my etsy store, despite having pages and pages of ideas brewing. This year I’d really like to flex my creative muscles and create some new geeky designs, drawing inspiration from Harry Potter, Dr Who, the Nintendo characters and Disney. I’m currently in the process of designing a Yoshi hat, so this resolution is already off and rolling!
3. Frame and display my fan art
I’ve got a rapidly-growing collection of amazing fan art pieces and none of them are framed. I’ve got pieces from Megan Lara, Stewart McKenny and Chris McQuinlan just gathering dust, which is a crying shame. Now that I’m settled into my flat, I’d really like to get them properly framed and display them.
4. Go to Beta Bar
Beta Bar is a kick-ass gaming bar that is run by some friends of my brother’s. It’s a pop-up bar that opens in different locations all around Melbourne. The venue is studded with arcade games for you to play. You can also rent board games from The Amoury to play with your friends. I really want to make the effort to head down to the city to attend a Beta Bar event. I just think it would be great fun as well as an awesome way to meet new people.
5. Create at least one new cosplay.
It’s been a long time since I’ve created a new cosplay costume, and I’d really like to make at least one this year. I’m thinking of dressing as Roxy Richter from Scott Pilgrim Vs The World or debuting my Susan Sto Helit costume at a convention this year.
Do you have any fandom goals for this year? Feel free to share yours in the comments or link to your own 5 Fandom Friday post.
The idea of gearing your New Year’s goals towards a particular theme is seriously cool! These are great things to work towards and I wish you unending luck with all of them (very much including saving for Disneyland – I’ve never been and would absolutely love to visit there some day, too).
Thank you for your bounty of sweet, supportive, fantastic recent blog comments, honey. I so adore hearing from you and connecting through our respective blogs and the lovely emails we’ve been swapping lately.
Have a gorgeous, fun filled first weekend of 2015!
♥ Jessica
You’re absolutely welcome. Your blog is one of my very favourites, and it always brightens my day when I see an email from you sitting in my inbox. You’re one in a million. 🙂
And I sincerely hope that you get to go to Disneyland one day too. I can only imagine the amazing outfit you’d wear! (Incidentally, have you seen the film Saving Mr Banks? In it, the characters visit Disneyland in the 60’s, and it’s the set is a wonderful recreation of the park during that era. I think you’d really like it).
I love travel and I hope you get to do more of it!
Thank you! I hope so too.
I love your ideas! The crochet looks so fun! I look forward to seeing some Cosplay 😀
I won’t let you down. There will be photos aplenty from each of the conventions I visit this year.
I love those TMNT hats! 😀 I hope you get to fly abroad this year, travel was the best thing I ever did. 🙂
Oh thank you! I’m a huge TMNT fan and these hats were so much fun to make. I really hope that I get to go overseas too.
Great resolutions! I’m fairly certain my fandom resolutions will also include framing and cosplay!
It’s also funny how we can take for granted some of the things we get to do. I go to Disneyland frequently but have never been to Australia and would love to go. Maybe we should work something out? 😉
You should definitely come to Australia. It’s such a beautiful country, and there are so many amazing things to do and places to explore. It would be a trip that you’d never forget. 🙂
I *love* these resolutions and implore you to go overseas! You will never, ever regret it.
I really want to, but every time I’ve started planning life has come along and thrown a spanner in the works. Never mind, this year I’m determined to at least make a start on bringing this dream to fruition.
