Recently, one of my male friends asked me if I could begin including more posts aimed at men who want to experiment with their style and grooming. In the past I’ve always written with female readers in mind, because it’s what I know. However, now that there are more and more blokes reading this blog, I figured it was about time that I started writing the odd post just for you guys.
I’m slightly obsessed with beauty and grooming products. My bathroom cabinet is overflowing with various lotions and potions for every possible use. I thought that today I’d compile a list of some of my favourite beauty products for dapper men. These products would also make great gifts for lady friends who aren’t overly girly.
Or, y’know, for women who like to dress like men.
The Olive Branch shower wash from Lush
This shower gel is one of my favourite products from Lush. It gets you good and clean, and it’s got a fantastically fresh unisex scent. Best of all, you can also use it as a shampoo, so it works double time.
Bohemian soap from Lush
If you prefer a soap to a shower gel, this is the one for you. Bohemian is a gorgeous lemony soap that washes away dirt and grime and wakes you up with its citrus scent.
Murray’s superior hairdressing pomade
This one’s a must for any lad who wants a perfectly groomed ‘do. Use just a little to add shine and control when styling your mop. It’s ideal for creating vintage inspired coiffs, smoothing unruly curls and smoothing down cowlicks. A little goes a long way too, so it’s great value.
CK1 cologne from Calvin Klein
This gorgeous unisex scent is the ideal accompaniment to any outfit. It’s light, refreshing and classic. One spray is all you need to help you smell divine.
Blistex lip balm
So many men neglect their lips. This is a real shame, because when it comes to smooching, you want to make sure that those suckers are soft and smooth. The last thing you want is to be puckering up with chapped, dry lips. If your kisser is really dry, give your lips a light scrub with your toothbrush while you brush your teeth. Then apply a light layer of lip balm. Reapply throughout the day, particularly if you’re out in the sun or in an air-conditioned or heated environment. This Blistex balm is awesome because it’s nourishing without being shiny. Just apply a tiny bit and nobody will even know you’re wearing it. Plus, it has a built-in sunscreen to protect your lips.
Nivea face veil sunscreen
Even if you can’t face the idea of introducing a whole skincare regime into your life, at least consider giving sunscreen a chance. Sun damage is the cause of so many skin woes, including discolouration, fine lines, freckles, rough texture and premature ageing. Oh, and skin cancer. Applying sunscreen on a daily basis will help protect your skin from sun damage and keep you looking younger for longer. This Nivea sunscreen is my all-time favourite. It’s cheap, it’s simply packaged and it sinks into your skin quickly. It’s non-greasy and non-ghosting which means that once it’s on, nobody can tell that you’re wearing it. It’s also suitable for sensitive skin.
If any of my male readers would like to request a topic for me to write about, please feel free to drop me an email or leave a comment. I’d be happy to oblige.
Very cool post – I’m sending the link to Tony as soon as I’ve wrapped up this comment. He’s not a beauty junkie by any stretch of the imagination, but he does have a (much appreciated) penchant for gorgeously scented colognes (he just bought a new one before our trip from Burberry that’s sublime!), classic safety razors and all their accouterments, and Dove’s line of men’s skincare products.
Tons of hugs & the very happiest of October wishes,
♥ Jessica
I know so many men who are well-groomed and are always on the lookout for delicious products that aren’t too frou-frou. There’s no reason why men can’t indulge in a bit of pampering, and a gorgeous cologne or a nice razor are the perfect way to do it. I hope Tony enjoys reading this post!
I love this article. I feel that to many of my fellow men don’t take take of themselves the way they should.
I did a piece on the “feminine” things men can do for their appearance and health. Please tell me what you think. http://awkwardagent.wordpress.com/2013/09/29/get-your-nails-did-and-other-girly-activities-that-guys-should-totally-get-into/
Thanks for sending me the link to your article. I really enjoyed reading it.
No, Thank YOU. I’m always happy to hear my “entertain and inform” mission statement is being met.
