Daily outfit 29/7/2013

Today’s outfit is a little boho ensemble I threw on to chill out at home and then go shopping with my mum.

DSCF8642I am wearing:

– Printed maxi dress from Jay Jays

– Purple Peace Angel velvet jacket from Friperie

– Tan boots from Target

– Silver beaded necklace (gift from my friend Tom)

– Beaded flower ring (gift from my parents)

– Paisley bangle (thrifted)

-Diamente ring from ASOS

– Butterfly ring (gift from my aunt)

DSCF8643I’d been having a bit of fun with my hair on the day I took these pictures.  One thing I miss about my long hair is how I could effortlessly tousle it into a funky hippie style.  My shorter hair tends to sit so smoothly and doesn’t like being messed up.  I had a go at using a little bit of texturizing spray on it and it worked a treat. It beefed up the strands and made my do look all choppy and wavy.  I added a couple of little plaits to the top of my hair as well.

DSCF8650I was sporting a two-toned manicure, because I couldn’t decide which polish I wanted to use.  I decided to wear both.

DSCF8646The necklace I’m wearing was a very special gift from my friend Tom.  Tom’s been living overseas for the last year and a half.  After tripping all around Europe and America, he spent six months at an orphanage in Mongolia.  He worked as a caretaker and teacher during his time there.  Last Saturday, I caught up with Tom for breakfast and tales of his adventures.  He bought me back a tonne of beautiful gifts, but none more lovely than this beaded necklace.  He told me that the children were busily making these necklaces, and he thought that I might like one.  All of the kids were so excited and begged Tom to choose them to make a necklace for me.  Tom picked one special little girl, and she made this necklace especially for me.  I am so pleased and very proud to be wearing something that was crafted so lovingly.

  1. Awesome ensemble! My very first thought was that it struck me as something I could so easily imagine a passionate fan of the Beatles during their Sgt. Pepper Days wearing – and I mean that as a wholly positive thing. You’ve utilized two of my all-time favourite 1960s elements here: velvet and paisley, and you look marvelous is both.

    • Thanks so much. I’m a massive Beatles fan and Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band is my second-favourite album (Abbey Road is my favourite). I hadn’t thought about that influence when I put this outfit together, but I can totally see it now that it’s been pointed out to me.

  2. I love that you are getting up, looking fabulous and doing fun stuff, even though you must be feeling pretty low at the moment.
    Represent!
You probably aren’t feeling much like it now, but what I have learned is this – all the good things happen when you embrace your situation as it is. It really is true.
    And things will get better.

    • Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment. It’s true, I’m feeling like shit at the moment, but I’m doing my best to at least try to get up and get dressed each day. The only way that things get better is with time, so I feel as though I just need to grit my teeth and hang on until enough time has passed that things are alright again.

  3. I think you and my eldest daughter would get along so well. You both have such a unique sense of style and don’t seem locked in to one “style”. Gorgeous as always!
