Things I Love Thursday 16/5/2013

Hooray for Thursday!  Half of the work week is already done, the weekend is nearly here and it’s time to rattle off a list of all the things I love this week.  Here we go!

This week, I love:

– Being honest with myself.  I’ve come to realise that there’s one day every month that I’m completely useless (yes, it’s a period thing).  For years I’ve fought my PMS, but I’ve decided to just go with the flow, so to speak.  By deciding to just have that one day to relax and chill out, I’ve given myself a bit of breathing space, rather than just setting myself up to be disappointed when I don’t get any work done.  It’s very refreshing.

– Awesome friends who you know you can be totally open and truthful with and they won’t get upset with you.

DSCF8185-Making my own muesli   I’m trying to cut down on the amount of sugar I’m eating at the moment. I’ve been struggling a bit to find suitable things to have for breakfast, as most of my usual breakky foods are full of sugar.  I found a recipe for sugar-free muesli and it’s great.  It’s great for killing off my afternoon sweet cravings too.

– Microwavable heat pillows.

– Running into friends at the supermarket.

– Bulldogs.

– Breathing in deep breaths of cold morning air.

– Opening all the blinds on our windows, and feeling the house come alive with warmth.

DSCF8186-This super-cute ring holder that arrived for me during the week. I had a bit of an ASOS shopping spree, and this was one of the things I bought.

DSCF8187I love his little face!  I already have two cat ring holders and this little guy looks gorgeous on my dresser next to them.

DSCF8188I also got a bunch of new rings from ASOS as well.  They were so cheap that I couldn’t resist them.

DSCF8190This bracelet was part of my haul too.  The little skulls remind me of Dhalsim.  ( I love Street Fighter, but my game play mainly consists of me mashing buttons and yelling wildly).

– Singing along to Under Pressure with Ross and debating which of us is more like Freddy Mercury and which is more like David Bowie.  F.Y.I: we decided that I’m Freddy.

– Bamboo thermals.  So warm, so soft.

– Watching Game of Thrones by candlelight.

– Planning my birthday party.

– Slowly building a playlist of all my favourite songs.

What do you love this Thursday?  I’d love to read your Things I love Thursday list, so leave one in the comments, or post a link to your own Things I love Thursday post.

  1. Oh, I’ve been learning about the period thing! I only started getting my natural period last year, and with those came all the crazy non-fun things I’ve heard about periods. Hormones, emotions, the cramps. I don’t know how women do it! 😛

Ring holder is SO cute! I’ve been eyeing it, and I think i’m going to have to be a copycat and buy one for myself!

One of my FAVOURITE songs ever, I think David Bowie is a god, and then paired with Freddie, it’s like the most epicest of epic songs!

Woo! Birthday party. I dunno if I’m even doing anything for mine, probably just be like any other day.

What do I love this Thursday? Hmm. My new phone. Tonka being so affectionate, he sleeps against me/ on top of me all night, and sometimes just clings to me like a baby sloth, the way he reaches out with his paw and touches me softly. SO MUCH LOVE! And Mr Frodo, everything about him. FINALLY seeing my psych after just over a month. And trying to reward myself for the little things.

    • Awww, Tonka is such a sweetie. And Frodo too, of course. You’re lucky to have such a great fur-family.
For my birthday this year, I’ve asked my guests to come dressed as a character from their favourite book. There are going to be games and plenty of literary-inspired food. I can’t wait. I hope you have a lovely birthday too!

  2. I know how you feel, PMS wise! I literally can’t do anything. When I was working, I couldn’t work. Even now, when I’m in the comfort of my own home, it’s absolutely awful. Luckily, like you, I’m kind of learning to deal with that. I know – for me – when to pop an Ibuprofen, etc. Having a magazine or something good on your phone worth reading is a major plus. ^_^

Game of Thrones by candlelight, heck yes! We either do candlelight or our oil lamp. It’s so wonderful!

I love that doggy ring holder. 😀

    Great list, lovely!

    • Thanks a bunch!
I’m always a mess emotionally on the second day of my period. I can never concentrate, I’m mopey and I find it hard to motivate myself to work. I also get massive migraines. Every month I try to push through it and then feel angry at myself when I don’t get anything done. So this month I decided to just cut the crap and give myself that day off. It made a huge difference and I’m so glad that I was honest with myself. I think you’ve got to listen to what your body’s telling you and just give yourself a break.
