My favourite fictional couples.

Aahh love, ain’t it grand?  Well, I think so anyway.  I’ve been doing a bit of thinking lately about my favourite on-screen couples.  While there are multitudes of silver screen romances, there are some that just stand apart from the rest.  Today, I’m taking a look at five of my favourite fictional couples.

Monica and Chandler from Friends.

Y’see, what I like the best about Monica and Chandler is the fact that, while neither of them is perfect, they accept one another and love eachother anyway.  Chandler makes fun of Monica’s anal retentive cleaning habits, and Monica gets irritated with Chandler’s constant joke-cracking, but in the end they’re able to put those little niggles aside and truly love one another.

Julia and Robbie from The Wedding Singer.

These two are just so funkin’ cute!  Every time they look at each other, you can practically see little heart-shaped bubbles popping over their heads.  I cry every time I watch this movie, simply from the total adorableness of this couple.

Molly and Arthur Weasely from Harry Potter.

It was so hard to find a video clip that properly illustrates the fantastic dynamic between this couple.  Although they’ve been married for years, and they’ve got seven children, you can tell that Molly and Arthur are still nuts for each other.  He is always concerned for her safety and goes out of his way to look after her.  And she’s not exactly a shrinking violet when it comes to protecting her man.  The books have some fantastic scenes with these two.  I particularly love the chapter in The Half Blood Prince when they reveal that Arthur’s pet name for Molly is “Mollywobbles”.

Steve and Miranda from Sex and The City

Even though I find about 90% of the couples in Sex and The City repellent, I adore Steve and Miranda.  It’s partially because I can relate to Miranda’s cynicism, and I like the fact that their relationship isn’t ideal.  Also, Steve is just so charming that it’s difficult not to crush on him.

Wilbur and Edna Turnblatt from Hairspray

It’s gorgeous to see a married couple who are so head-over-heels for one another.  Wilbur is so smitten by Edna that he doesn’t even react when the gorgeous Michelle Pfeiffer throws herself at him.  Their duet, “You’re Timeless to Me” is one of my favourite songs, because it speaks of real-life love that lasts forever.
