Daily outfit: 25/9/2012

I had so much fun with today’s outfit.  I was unpacking some of my old clothes that had been left at my parent’s house for ages, when I came across two gorgeous items that I hadn’t worn in years:

This lacy jacket is a kebaya, and it is from Indonesia.  This particular kebaya was bought for me by one of my good friends on a trip to Java almost fifteen years ago.  The sari also came from Indonesia.

I am wearing:

-Indonesian gold kebaya

– Empire Records shirt from Pulp Kitchen

– Green Indonesian sari

– Brown Zu platform shoes (thrifted)

– Brown resin ring from Violet Town Community Op Shop

– Multi-coloured Indian ring

– Amethyst ring

-Owl ring from Diva

I really love this kebaya.  I’m planning on wearing it a lot as the weather gets warmer.  The sari is also lots of fun to wear, but I’ll have to wear it on days when I don’t have to be anywhere in a hurry.  It’s very narrow, so I have to take teeny, tiny steps to avoid toppling over.

Wearing this outfit was a little bittersweet for me as well.  I used to speak Indonesian almost fluently.  I studied it at school from the time I was eight years old until I graduated.  I got top marks in my school for Indonesian.  Now, however, I’m very out of practice and I’ve forgotten all my vocab (other than the numbers to ten, the words for ‘cat’ and ‘dog’ and a few choice swear words).

Do you speak another language?  Have you forgotten a previously learned language?

  1. You have an empire records shirt! I am so jealous!

I currently speak Japanese and French, in addition to my native English. I am reallllllyyy terrible at them, however, but am trying to get better!

    • Dang right I have an Empire Records shirt. I find it comes in handy for weeding out people I’m likely to befriend.

Good on you for learning two languages. That’s very ambitious!
