Product review: Finding Mr Bright kit from Benefit

In my humble opinion, one of the most underrated beauty products is highlighter.  A good highlighter can draw attention to your best features, make your eyes sparkle and your skin glow.  In spite of this, highlighter is one step that I’ve often neglected in my beauty routine.  Recently, I decided to treat myself to the Finding Mr Bright kit from Benefit, which is filled with a plethora of products designed to conceal flaws and brighten the complexion.

The first thing that attracted me to this kit was the bright pink packaging!  Everything is bundled securely in this little pink box, which closes with a magnet, so stuff isn’t going to start spilling out into your beauty case.

The Finding Mr Bright kit contains:

– Erase Paste concealer

– Girl Meets Pearl liquid highlighter

– Posie Tint lip and cheek stain

– High Beam liquid highlighter.

It also comes with a nifty little booklet to show you how to apply each of the products.

The Erase Paste from Benefit is my all-time favourite under-eye concealer.  This creamy concealer blends flawlessly to hide dark circles and bags.  I also use a few dots of this around my nose to camouflage redness.  While you could use the Erase Paste on pimples, I prefer to use a waxier concealer as it gives better coverage.  Be warned that in the Finding Mr Bright kit, the Erase Paste only comes in the medium shade.  So if you have very pale or dark skin, this won’t be the right shade for you.

I’m totally in love with High Beam.  A wee swipe on your cheekbones is all you need for gorgeous, glowing skin.  It blends really well to give the illusion of a healthy, well-rested face.  It’s also lovely for blending onto your brow-bone to give your brows a little lift.  Use it sparingly though, as a little goes a long way.

I was a bit underwhelmed by the Posie Tint.  As a lip tint, it didn’t give a great result, as it’s almost exactly the same shade as my lips.  If your lips are lighter, it would give a lovely peachy sheen.  It makes a gorgeous cheek tint, and is perfect for low-key makeup days.  It gives a very natural-looking flush to my cheeks.  You do need to work quickly with this one, as it dries very fast.  Simply pop a few dots onto your cheeks and blend like crazy with your fingers.  If you don’t blend well enough, it does tend to give you racing-stripe blusher.

The Girl Meets Pearl brightener is the stand-out product from this kit.  It is a shimmery golden-pink pearlescent cream, which gives your complexion an amazing dewy glow.  You’re supposed to mix it with your moisturizer and then blend it all over your face.  However, when I did this, it gave my ordinarily-pale skin a weird yellowy tint.  If you have naturally olive, dark or tan skin, this would be an ideal product for you to use all over your face.  However, for pale girls, it makes a gorgeous highlighter.  I blend a tiny bit over my cheekbones and temples after I’ve applied my blush.  It makes me look healthy and fresh, like I spend all my time frolicking in a meadow eating fresh fruit and chasing bunnies.

At $45, this kit is pretty good value.  While all of the products are miniature, there’s enough in there to last you for a couple of months at least.  It gives you lots of new products to try and play with, which is something I love doing.

I’m pretty darn happy with the Finding Mr Bright kit.  It was the perfect thing to buy to treat myself for all my hard work.  Not only do I now have four new products to fiddle with, it’s perfect for hiding the evidence that my hard work sometimes leaves on my complexion!

Have you tried the Finding Mr Bright kit?  What did you think?
