Supanova 2012

On Saturday, Ross and I made a whirlwind trip to Melbourne for the Supanova convention.  I was extremely excited because the Phelps twins (who play Fred and George Weasely in the Harry Potter films) were going to be appearing.  Sadly though, I didn’t get a chance to see them, because the lines to get signatures or pictures were astronomical, and I didn’t fancy spending an entire day standing in queue.

In spite of that minor hiccup, we had a truly brilliant day.  For me, no convention would be complete without an awesome Cosplay costume.  This year, I decided to dress up as Luna Lovegood, who is one of my all-time favorite characters.

I was so, so happy with the way my costume turned out.  Most of the clothing was stuff that I already had in my wardrobe.  I made the Ravenclaw scarf myself (I will be taking orders for Harry Potter scarves in my etsy store soon, so send me an email if you are interested in having me make one for you).  I also made the Spectrespecs.  I loved wearing them, despite the fact that they do make me look a wee bit demented.

My wand was a big hit too.  Upon hearing that I was planning on dressing as Luna, my Dad quickly whipped  up this gorgeous wand for me.  I love it.

It was very windy!

Ross dressed as Neville Longbottom (swoon!)  We once again got to pose in the Delorean.

We started off the day by heading to a panel interview of Tristan Jones.  Tristan is an amazing artist, and is currently doing the cover art for the Ghostbusters comics.  He’s also a writer, and worked on the TMNT comics for ages.  We also own some of his original artwork, so it was awesome to actually meet him face to face.  He was a genuinely nice guy, and I’m so excited to see what he has in store for the future.

We did loads of browsing and shopping.  Ross bought heaps of art prints and comics, but I didn’t buy a thing in the end. I did see a lovely TARDIS cookie jar that was very tempting, but I resisted.

The best part of the day was the costumes.  I didn’t get too many costume pics, sadly.  Here are a few of my favorites:

Chun-Li from Street Fighter.

Ross with Dr Orpheus from the Venture Brothers.

Me, with Han Solo, trapped in carbonite.  I couldn’t stop laughing at it.

This was my favorite costume from the day.  This woman was upset because nobody knew who she was dressed as, but I recognised her instantly.  She’s one of the Snatchers from Harry Potter.  We had great fun posing with her!

We had a really great day, all in all.  We ran into several of our friends and bought loads of super-awesome stuff.  I can’t wait for next year.

Did you go to Supanova?
