Now that I’ve moved back home to Benalla, I thought that I would share some of the special parts of town with you guys. I’m betting that a lot of you have never visited Benalla, and it’s a really pretty place, so I thought you might like to see it.
The first place I’m going to show you is Benalla’s Rose Garden. As Victoria is ‘The Garden State”, each town in the state has a flower or plant as it’s emblem. Benalla is the Rose City. We have a beautiful rose garden next to the lake, which runs through the centre of town.
The rose gardens are beautiful at any time of year, but at the moment they are looking expecially lush. It’s probably due to all the rain we’ve had in the past few weeks.
The garden is cut through with walking paths, and it’s the perfect place to take a stroll. I walk through here every time I go up to the shops.
There are plenty of benches scattered about the place. I love bringing my book down here in the afternoon and spending an hour reading in the shade.
There are also plenty of flat, grassy areas, which make perfect picnic sites. We had a picnic lunch here for my brother’s birthday a few weeks ago.
The garden itself is located next to a playground. When I was a little girl, I was obsessed with Alice in Wonderland (as well as Leonardo Da Vinci, The Titanic and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I was a wierd kid). I used to pretend that I was Alice, walking through the garden of talking flowers.
There are so many different kinds of roses in the garden. I particularly like the ones with funny names.
One of the things I like best about the Rose Garden is the variety of colours. When I think of roses, I automatically picture red roses, but there is a whole rainbow of shades to fall in love with.
See, so many hues.
The Benalla Rose Gardens is one of my favorite places to spend an afternoon. If you ever happen to take a trip to country Victoria, I recommend packing a picnic lunch to eat in this little slice of heaven.
