I’ve been on the lookout for a new liquid eyeliner for quite some time now. I had bought one a year or so ago, which was fantastic, except that it wouldn’t come off. No matter what makeup removal method I employed, this stuff stuck faster than super-glue. I wanted a product that would give me a smooth, sleek line, without irritating my eyes. When I attended the Viva La Colour event at Kit Cosmetics three weeks ago, my makeup artist was quick to recommend Smashbox’s Jet Set waterproof eyeliner. I was eager to give it a try.
The first thing that I noticed about this product was that it came in a nifty little pot. The clean, minimal packaging appealed to me, as it’s the perfect size for slipping into your overnight bag for impromptu trips. I’ve only ever purchased liquid eyeliners with a pen-tip applicator, so I was a little wary of this humble pot.
I also purchased a Smashbox Arced Liner Brush (#21), as I didn’t have a thin brush of my own. This brush is absolute genius. The handle has a little kink in it, which makes it easy to apply a smooth, perfect line every time. I drew the most flawless, straight line on my very first try. I have often found myself grappling with eyeliner pens, trying to maneuver them past my Bambi-like lashes, and winding up with a bumpy, uneven line. This awesome brush expertly avoids even the longest of lashes, giving you loads of control over your liner.
The liner itself is pretty impressive. It has a soft, gel-like formula that glides effortlessly over your skin. It sets rather quickly though, so you need to work fast to get a smooth line. Once the line is dry, it won’t budge. I’ve worn this liner on days when I’ve been running about like a headless chook, and it hasn’t budged an inch. It’s even withstood a bout of hayfever without so much as a single smudge. In spite of it’s gargantuan staying power, the liner is incredibly gentle on your eyes and is easy to remove. Just a swipe of your favorite eye makeup remover, and this stuff is disappears faster than Dracula at sunrise.
I adore the finish of this liner. It gives an amazing, blacker-than-black finish, without looking plastic or shiny. It blends beautifully with your lashes to give your eyes wonderful definition and pop. It can be worn over or under eyeshadow with equally impressive results.
I am head-over-heels for this eye liner. It’s been working double-time in my makeup bag over the last couple of weeks, and I don’t see my love for it abating any time soon. I would especially recommend this product for makeup novices, ladies who love vintage- and gothic-inspired looks and girls who want a liner that holds fast and looks fantastic without irritating your eyes.
