I’m not the sort of girl who shies away from colour. You’re more likely to see me gallivanting about town in a pair of hot-pink jeans and an acid-blue shirt, than sweeping about swathed in blacks and greys. My motto is, “The brighter, the better”. It’s not surprising that, when a cosmetic line bursting with colour sashayed onto the scene, I jumped at the chance to try it out.
Kit’s Viva La Colour range of makeup is positively overflowing with vibrant shades that are guaranteed to tantalize even the most conservative ladies. With hot-popping hues of nail varnish, lipstick and eyeshadow, this line is right up my alley. The Viva Colour range showcases the beauty of dazzling cosmetics, and encourages makeup-lovers everywhere to ditch the neutrals and embrace colour.
On Saturday afternoon, I hopped along to Kit Cosmetics at Doncaster to celebrate the launch of this gorgeous new product line. Being that the theme was ‘Viva La Colour”, and that the whole line has a Mexican fiesta feel to it, I decided to lift a little style inspiration from my favorite senorita, Frida Kahlo.
I am wearing:
– Green ribbed sweater from Supre
– Denim vest from Cotton On
– Beaded floral maxi skirt from Valley Girl
– Owl Ring (gifted)
– Beaded flower ring (gifted)
– Topaz cuff bracelet (thrifted)
– Turquoise beads (once belonged to my mother)
– Zu platform shoes (thrifted)
– Purple rose bag (gifted).
As usual, the Kit store was full of happy faces and toe-tapping tunes. I had a one-hour appointment with the fantastic Damian, my all-singing, all-dancing makeup artist. One thing that really sets Kit cosmetics apart from other makeup stores is their staff. The makeup artists at Kit are always bubbly and helpful, and really go out of their way to make sure that you’re well taken care of. As soon as I arrived in the store, staff members were flocking over to take my bags, settle me in my seat, offer me drinks and shower me with compliments. The atmosphere of the store is so positive and fun. It’s the perfect place to head if you’re having a blue day, because your mood will instantly be lifted by Kit’s brilliant staff.
Damian spent the first part of our appointment giving me a mini-facial and showing off some of Kit’s fantastic range of skincare products. I was thoroughly impressed by the array of cleansers, treatments and moisturizers that were trotted out for me to inspect. After a quick cleanse and a shot of moisture, my skin was feeling soft and looking radiant. With my face prepped and ready, it was time to start playing with the makeup.
The whole purpose of the day was to show off the new product line and to encourage customers to try something new. Damian asked me loads of questions about the type of makeup I usually wear, what kinds of looks I would be interested in trying, and whether there was anything I really didn’t like to wear. He led me outside my comfort zone, without pushing me into territory I didn’t want to venture into. I told him that I was very confident wearing vibrant colours and that I was game to try anything. I’ve never seen a makeup artist get so excited to hear those words! Damian leapt at the chance to devise a creative new look for me. We decided to experiment with some bright eye makeup, in shades of yellow and purple.
I’ve never been a huge fan of yellow, so I was a little dubious about how this look would turn out. I decided to just kick back and relax, and see how I felt at the end of the appointment. Damian worked at a good pace, showing me each product before he applied it, and explaining what he was doing as he went. He kept showing me the progress in the mirror, and checked with me several times to make sure that I was happy with his work so far. I was ecstatic when he finished the application and I got to check out the finished look:
I couldn’t have been happier with my makeup. The yellow and purple shadows blended flawlessly to create a mesmerizing effect. The shades made the blue of my eyes look tantalizingly bright, and my lashes seemed to go on forever. I loved it. I felt like a gorgeous peacock, ready to strut my stuff. I spent the rest of the day fluttering my lashes at strangers, and taking extreme pleasure whenever I saw someone falter at the sight of my glorious peepers. I also tried on an orange lipstick and gloss. Once again, I’ve never been a huge fan of orange, but this Fanta-bright shade was so summery and sweet that I couldn’t help feeling smitten.
I left Kit with a huge smile on my face and a massive bag brimming with goodies. I nabbed myself a few little treats:
– Smashbox Jet Set waterproof eyeliner
– Kit Mineral Liquid Powder Foundation
– Number 21 eyeliner brush
– Kit eyeshadow in Big Time
You can expect reviews of these products over the next couple of weeks.
If you’re a colour-lover like myself, or if you’re looking to stir some brights into your otherwise neutral makeup collection, I recommend that you hot-foot it to Kit and check out the Viva La Colour range. There is a vibrant hue to suit everyone in store. The staff and fabulously friendly and you’ll leaving looking and (more importantly) feeling utterly beautiful.
