Buttons N Beads

A few weeks ago, my housemate emerged from her room wearing the most adorable pair of earrings.  They were oversized studs that looked as though they had been sprinkled with hundreds and thousands.  When I asked where she had procured such gorgeous creations, she produced a business card for Buttons N Beads.  I checked out the online store and was blown away at the amazing range of jewellery and accessories.  There are rings in all shapes and sizes, a handbag that looks like a teapot and even a slightly bondage-esque version of my Daschund bag.  I was instantly hooked on Buttons N Beads.

I got in touch with the very lovely Clair Single, who agreed to do an interview with me for all of you to read.

1. What prompted you to start Buttons N Beads?

I have always been a very creative/hands-on type of person and my family always encouraged that. One year for Christmas my parents gave me a giant tool box filled with beads, wire and pliers and told me to go nuts… it turned into an obsession pretty quickly after that.

2. Where do you draw the inspiration for your designs from?

Fashion, I love to observe peoples’ style. I like looking at someone’s outfit and thinking “what would I put with that?” It’s probably why my jewellery designs seem so eclectic when you look at them side by side. I find the Glebe Markets is a great place to observe fashion as you get such a good mix of people.

3. Do you have a favorite piece from your collection?

At the moment I’m in love with this necklace.  I really like the look when I mix the different textures together. I’m also pretty proud of myself because each time I make this style of necklace I make it slightly different, so far I haven’t made two exactly the same.

4. How would you describe your own personal style?

I’m a pretty casual person, you’ll most likely find me wearing ballet flats and a pair of jeans, but I like to make my jewellery a feature. I have a pretty big jewellery collection now which is mostly bold, colourful or chunky! My latest obsession has been a diamanté encrusted ring shaped like an elephant!

5. What’s the most rewarding part of running your own business?

I really enjoy people’s reactions to the items I sell, I get great feedback about the jewellery I make and the handbags that I import actually stop some people in their tracks! It’s quite lovely to think that my hobby turned obsession can brighten someone’s day.

If you are looking for some jewellery that is totally unique, or a quirky bag that’s guaranteed to turn heads, check out Buttons N Beads.  I promise you’ll be as astounded as I was.  The prices are very reasonable and their range is great.  I highly recommend it.
