In August last year, my parents booked tickets for all of us to see CATS, the musical. They gave me my ticket for Christmas. Today, I FINALLY got to see it.
Here is what I wore. I bought this dress about six months ago from the Dookie Emporium, and I have been waiting for a really special occasion to wear it. Today definitely qualified.
-Blue Vietnamese dress from Dookie Emporium.
– Black Nine West Heels.
– Amethyst ring
– Sapphire ring
– Mother of pearl earrings (thrifted).
The show was totally worth the wait. I have seen Cats once before, and it will always hold a very special place in my heart, because it was the first live show I ever went to. I remember sitting in the theatre with my jaw hanging open, taking in everything that was going on. I was astounded by the costumes and the agility of the performers, and I found myself humming the songs for days afterwards.
Today, I was a little nervous that the show wouldn’t live up to my expectations, but I needn’t have worried. From the opening number to the curtain call, I was enraptured by the performance. I actually got a little choked up as I heard the opening strains of the overture, because it transported me back to that very fist time I saw it.
A few changes had been made to the original production. Some of the costumes had been modernised a little, and my favorite character, Rumpleteazer, has been given a sexy makeover, which I approve of. The musical numbers were full of energy and were beautifully performed. I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face as I sat there, taking it all in, and I felt quite disappointed when it ended.
My only regret was that we didn’t get aisle seats. Throughout the show, the performers come out into the audience, and I would have loved a cuddle of the Rum Tum Tugger (a sexy tom cat with the personality of Mick Jagger and Dr. Frank N. Furter rolled into one).
It was a marvellous day. I would go again tomorrow if I would.
Although the Melbourne run of the show is stricly limited, if you have the opportunity to get tickets, grab it with both hands. You won’t regret it.
