About Nessbow

Nessbow is a web-log created by Vanessa Bowen.  Vanessa is the epitome of duality, personifying a series of wildly conflicting attributes.  Sweet and sexy, electric and macabre, vintage and modern,  a homebody and a crazy karaoke queen; Vanessa is all of these things.

Like the love child of Judy Garland and David Bowie, Vanessa is full of surprises.  Her fascination with yesteryear and obsession with geekery have influenced her personal style deeply.  She is like a flash of luminous style in a sea of grey suits, a pillar of sartorial splendour in a town filled with ugg boots and tracksuits.  She has been known to wear head-to-toe vintage one day and then a gothic-inspired ensemble the next.  You never  quite know what she’s going to wear on any given occasion, and that’s part of her charm.  What you can count on is that her outfit will be unique, complimented by clever accessories and usually sourced from a second hand store or discount outlet.  Vanessa’s thrify chic style quashes the notion that fashion needs to be expensive, or that style can be bought.

Vanessa left a blossoming law career to pursue her love of fashion and self expression.  Her blog, Nessbow was created in 2009 as an outlet for her to share her eclectic personal style and penchant for alternative fashion.  It quickly grew into something so much more.

Nessbow’s  is about encouraging readers to find themselves, fall in love with themselves and then treat themselves like the greatest lover they’ve ever had.  It’s about celebrating your quirks and being proud of your eccentricities.  It’s about carving out a haven in a hectic world and filling it with the things that make you happy.  It’s about being gracious without losing yourself.  It’s about feeling beautiful and being proud of what a miracle you are. It’s about finding inspiration in the most unexpected places.  It’s about encouraging self-exploration, self-care and the preservation of self-worth.

Nessbow’s mission statement reads:

“I aim to encourage my readers to dress in a way that makes them happy, to draw inspiration from unusual sources and to feel good about the way they present themselves.  I will publish content that encourages my readers to take care of and value themselves.  I endeavour to show that you don’t have to spend wads of cash to be stylish, well-groomed and happy.  I will use the word ‘geek’ as a compliment and continue to celebrate all the nerdy things that make me smile. “

Vanessa is also the author of four fantastic e-books.  She has been a featured guest poster on a number of high-profile blogs, including Yes and Yes, XL as Life, Vianza business blog and Newfoundlander at Heart.

Vanessa loves: costume parties, cats, kissing, karaoke, petticoats, glitter, cult movies, writing with ballpoint pens, crocheting, hand-written letters, a perfect cup of tea, never paying full price for anything,  bare feet on soft grass,  getting slightly drunk before doing the dishes.
