It’s been so cold here lately that all I’ve wanted to wear is jumpers and track pants. I can’t let myself do that though. I’ve got this deep-seated fear that if I let myself slouch around in sweatpants too often, I’ll turn into one of those women who wears sweatpants all the time. When you live in a country town, and it seems like every second person on the street is wearing some variation of pyjamas to do their shopping, this is a valid concern.
So when I start to fall into a ‘sweatpant rut’ I begin to make bargains with myself. I have to look for comfy, warm alternatives that will satisfy the part of my brain that just wants to nap until summer hits. However, I try to pair these slouchy items with things that have a bit more polish. Like this:
-Red sequinned sweater (vintage, thrifted)
- Black and white pinstriped mini skirt from KMart
- Black sheer stockings from Target
- Red patent leather platform heels from John Giallo
- Amethyst ring
- Black beaded earrings (handmade by my aunt)
This jumper is fantastic for winter. It’s warm and chunky, so it’s perfect for cold days. Ordinarily, I’ve been wearing this sweater with pants, but today I decided to try it with a skirt. I’ve had this skirt for years, and I thought it’s simplicity would make it a great accompaniment for my bright jumper. I decided to add red heels and big earrings in a modern nod to 80′s power dressing.
I tried to pull my hair into a sleek bun, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t get the ends to stay tucked in. I decided to just roll with it, and mussed the whole thing up for a spikey, fun look. I’m pretty darn happy with it.
What do you do to pull yourself out of a track-suit rut?
